Amway India, the subsidiary of US-based Amway Corporation, has set up its first manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu.
The FMCG firm invested about $83 million in setting up this manufacturing unit which was inaugurated by Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa recently. The facility would create 500 direct and 1,000 indirect jobs.
Doug DeVos, president, Amway Corporation, said: “The operations here will strengthen our efforts to develop India-specific products, which should support greater growth and meet the increasing demand of consumers.”
This is Amway’s third manufacturing plant located outside the US, with the other plants located in China and Vietnam. Amway has spent more than 30 per cent of the $335 million allocated for global expansion in India.
The company has also taken up corporate social responsibility activity in the region by adopting 10 villages for rainwater harvesting and plans to adopt 10 more. It also has plans to set up high-tech research and development centre.
